Peter M. Kash
Chairman
Mr. Kash, a co-founder of Nile , currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Company. Mr. Kash is a co-founder and President of Two River Group Holdings, LLC. He has been a Biotechnology Venture Capitalist for 20 years, during which he has raised over $800 million and co-founded more than one dozen biopharmaceutical companies in the fields of oncology, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and ophthalmology. Mr. Kash is also the President of Riverbank Capital Securities, Inc., a FINRA registered broker dealer that specializes in conducting private placement financings for public and private development stage biotechnology companies. Riverbank has co-placed nearly $200 million since September 2005.
Mr. Kash currently serves as a director of Arno Therapeutics, Inc. (OTCBB:ARNI.OB) and as a director of several privately held companies, including Danube Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Kash was also a founding Board member of Intercept Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in Italy.
From 1996-2000 Mr. Kash served as an Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship and International Venture Capital at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Kash earned his B.S. in Management Science from SUNY Binghamton and his M.B.A. in Banking and International Finance from Pace University. He is currently writing his thesis for his Doctorate of Education. He serves on the Boards of Cancer Schmancer, Fran Drescher's organization dedicated to ensuring a cure for women's cancers, and Keren-Or, a charity for blind and multi-handicapped children. Mr. Kash's first book, Make Your Own Luck, is now available in eight languages worldwide. His second book, Freedom From Disease, written with co-author Dr. Jay Lombard, was released in June. Mr. Kash will devote only a portion of his time to the business of the Company.
Peter M. Strumph
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Strumph serves as the CEO and as a director of Nile. Prior to joining Nile, from 1997 to 2007 Mr. Strumph worked for CV Therapeutics, Inc., or CVT, which discovers, develops,
commercializes and sells cardiovascular therapeutic products. His latest postion at CVT was Senior Vice President of Operations. At CVT, at various times, Mr. Strumph had responsibility for several functions including, pharmaceutical development and manufacturing, marketing, quality assurance/control, clinical trial operations, project management and alliance management. Additionally, Mr. Strumph was a member of the CEO Executive Staff, was the Project Team Leader for RanexaTM and served as the Chair of the Product Development Committee. Prior to joining CVT in 1997, Mr. Strumph served as Manager, Operations Planning and Development at Biogen, Inc. where he played an active role in Biogen's transition from a research based company to a fully integrated profitable biotechnology company. Mr. Strumph received his M.B.A. in Finance and Healthcare Management from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and his B.S. in Systems Science and Engineering from The University of Pennsylvania. He also served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy.
Pedro Granadillo
Director
Mr. Granadillo served as Senior Vice President for Eli Lilly and Company ("Lilly") until 2004 when he retired after 34 years of service. He was a member of Lilly's Policy Committee, which was comprised of its top seven executives. As Lilly's top human resources, manufacturing and quality executive, he was responsible for policies affecting a global workforce of more than 45,000 employees, as well as a broad network of manufacturing facilities for its extensive line of products. Mr. Granadillo led initiatives that brought Lilly wide recognition as a progressive employer. He also oversaw more than 20 sites and 13,000 employees involved in the manufacturing of Lilly's conventional "small-molecule" pharmaceuticals and "large-molecule" biotech therapies. Mr. Granadillo is serves as a Director of First Indiana Bank, Indianapolis, IN; Haemonetics Corporation of Braintree, MA; Noven Pharmaceuticals, Miami FL; and Purdue University Research Foundation. Mr. Granadillo received his B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University.
Joshua A. Kazam
Director
Mr. Kazam, a co-founder of Nile, currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Company. Mr. Kazam co-founded Two River Group Holdings, LLC in September 2004. Prior to that, from September 1999 Mr. Kazam served as a Managing Director of Paramount BioCapital. He also served as Managing Director of Paramount, where he was responsible for ongoing operations of venture investments. In addition, Mr. Kazam served as the Director of Investment for the Orion Biomedical Fund, a New York based private equity fund focused on biotechnology investments. Mr. Kazam also currently serves as a director of Tigris Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Cortiva Therapy and Velcera Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately held veterinary company. Mr. Kazam graduated with honors from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in finance and entrepreneurial management, where he has been invited back to teach in the Spring of 2005.
Paul A. Mieyal, Ph.D.
Director
Dr. Mieyal is a Vice President of Wexford Capital LLC, an SEC registered
investment advisor with over $5 billion of assets under management
located in Greenwich, CT. Prior to that, he was Vice President in charge
of healthcare investments for Wechsler & Co., Inc., a private investment
firm and registered broker-dealer. Dr. Mieyal serves as a Director of
Danube Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Tigris Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Epiphany
Biosciences, Inc., Interventional Spine, Inc., GlobeImmune, Inc. and
Microbiogen Pty Ltd. Dr. Mieyal received his Ph.D. in pharmacology from
New York Medical College, a B.A. in chemistry and psychology from Case
Western Reserve University, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Gregory W. Schafer
Director
Mr. Schafer serves as the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. With over 10-years of senior corporate finance experience in the biotechnology industry, he has successfully raised over $600 million in capital. Prior to Onyx, from 2004 to 2006, Mr. Schafer served as a consultant to several private and public biotechnology companies. From 1997 to 2004, Mr. Schafer held various executive positions at Cerus Corporation, a public biotechnology company, including Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Cerus, Mr. Schafer worked as a management consultant for Deloitte & Touche LLP. Mr. Schafer is highly experienced in developing and executing successful strategic plans, has first hand knowledge of capital markets and has been instrumental in building processes which are commensurate with current compliance considerations. He holds an MBA from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA and a BSE in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
David M. Tanen
Director
Mr. Tanen, a co-founder of Nile, currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Company. Mr. Tanen co-founded Two River Group Holdings, LLC in September 2004. Prior to that, from 1996 until September 2004, Mr. Tanen served was employed by Paramount BioCapital where he co-founded a number of development stage biotechnology companies. In addition, Mr. Tanen was involved in the structuring and creation of alternative investment vehicles. While at Paramount, Mr. Tanen was responsible for drafting and negotiating more than 30 license agreements for the acquisition of novel technologies, as well as structuring and closing Paramount’s private placement offerings. Mr. Tanen currently serves as an officer or director of Chelsea Therapeutics, Inc. (CHTP.OB), as well as several privately held development stage biotechnology companies, including Tigris Pharmaceuticals, Inc.. Mr. Tanen holds a bachelor’s degree from the George Washington University and a law degree from the Fordham University School of Law.
